Photographing Time

For thirty years, contemporary artist Yasu Suzuka traveled across the world, using a handmade 8×10-inch pinhole camera to photograph time itself.
While conventional photography captures a single moment, WIND MANDALA records the traces of clouds, the echoes of wind, the rhythm of waves, the memories of light, and the remnants of prayer.
Created over three decades, the series received the Discovery Award at the Rencontres d'Arles International Photography Festival in France in 2004, earning international recognition.

Handmade 8×10 Pinhole Camera

This 8×10-inch pinhole camera has no lens.
Modified by Yasu Suzuka from a commercially made large-format camera, it traveled across the world for nearly thirty years, recording the traces of time through long-exposure photography.

Over the past three decades, WIND MANDALA has received international recognition through major exhibitions, awards, and publications. The series was honored with the Discovery Award at the 2004 Rencontres d'Arles International Photography Festival and featured in Camera & Darkroom magazine.
